Celebrate Good Times – No Line Coloring

Written by Kelli Cortes. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Hello everyone, Kelli here today!  For the main image on this card I tried no line coloring for the very first time!  This is when you stamp an image in a light color and then color the image so the finished product doesn’t show an outline.  It was actually a lot different than coloring with the usual dark outline!  I think I need some more practice to make it look a little better, but even though it was time-consuming, I think the outcome is awesome!  You should give it a try if you haven’t already!

I stamped one of the girls from The Greeting Farm – Miss Anya Night Out stamp set in Memento – Desert Sand ink.  I actually stamped it once onto scratch paper and then onto the piece I would be coloring on so it would be even lighter.
I colored her with Copics:
Skin: E13, E53, E51, E50, R20 for Cheeks
Hair: E29, E27, E25, E23
Dress: BG09, BG07, BG05, BG02, BV04, BV02, BV01
Ground Shadow: W3, W2, W1, 0

Since she was stamped in really light ink, the eyes, eyebrow, and mouth didn’t really show up.  I went over them with a colored pencil.  I think this is probably the best option so you have more control over the very fine details.

I wanted to keep everything pretty simple so that the image was the main focus.  I added some Purple Crush Baker’s Twine behind the image layer and adhered the sparkly teal layer to the card base using the Crafter’s Companion – Adhesive Runner.  To finish everything off I added some rhinestones to her ears and shoes.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Have a great day!  🙂

We have chemistry!

Written by Kelli Cortes. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Hello, everyone!  Kelli here today with a fun card to share with you!  I recently got some Tim Holtz – Distress Markers and couldn’t wait to give them a try!  The two images (I thing they are called flasks?) and the sentiment are from the Lawn Fawn – Science of Love stamp set.  I used the matching Science of Love die set to cut out the two main images.  I can never get enough of matching dies!

The flasks were stamped in black StazOn ink onto Tim Holtz – Watercolor paper.  I colored the one on the left with Peacock Feathers and the one on the right with Picked Raspberry.  There’s a little bit of Tumbled Glass on the clear parts of both flasks.  Coloring with Distress Markers is different than coloring with alcohol markers, but in a way a little bit the same in the sense that there is shading and blending.  I colored heavily on the side where the shadowing is and left the lighter area blank.  I took a water brush (you could also just use a paintbrush and water) and blended the color out over the area that wasn’t colored.  This helps give you the natural shading with only using one color!

For the fun watercolored background I also used the Distress Markers and watercolor paper.  I took a nonstick craft sheet and colored directly onto it in sections using Peacock Feathers, Picked Raspberry and Mustard Seed.  Then I spritzed it pretty generously with water from a Ranger – Mini Mister.  You will see puddles begin to form.  Then press the paper into the puddles and wiggle slightly.  I dried this layer with my heat tool and then went back in and pounced the paper back into some of the puddles and dried it again.  That’s how to get the subtle colors as the base and the more vibrant spots of color on top.  I love how only three colors blended together to make other colors!  Before adding all the details to the card, I added a vellum circle so that it would help mute the background a little and let the flasks stand out.  I adhered all the paper layers together using the Crafter’s Companion – Adhesive Runner.

To give the flasks some added sparkle I went over them with my Spica – Clear glitter pen.  Finally, to finish everything off I added some CraftKin – Lemonade baker’s twine to the sentiment.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Have a great day!  🙂

Coloring with Hikka! Week Two

Written by Hikka. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects), Tutorials

Well well, here we are again. I hope you all are ready for another long drabble~! This time though, I think I might break down my photos a little more. Or rather scans..we’re gonna scan everything in this time cause I don’t have the best camera at my disposal right now. I felt like my photos from the first week didn’t show the detailing all that well.

Here we go, I dug out this little scribble from a mountain of “THINGS I START AND NEVER FINISHED” which actually, is more like a mountain range I should say.

Lines of course done with my Copic Multiliner SP black set. (Majority ofthe lines done in size 2 with finer detailing done with 0.05 and 0.03). Oh! and before I forget X-Press paper is what this doodle is on.

And of course, coloring done with ShinHan Touch Twin Brush markers.

Alrighty, let’s get started now.

Since I actually sorta have a background this time, we’re gonna focus on that first. My end goal is to have a night sky sort of backdrop so the blend will be made up of PB76, B261, and PB71. So, we start off with PB76 on our window things..whatever I’m going for here. :B I’ve done about three or so layers of it to saturate the color. However, the central pane has a bit of a fade in the center towards the moon. Gonna focus back on the side panes, which I do a tip to tip blend of PB76 and B261, taken up about halfway, then a layer of just B261 halfway on the tip to tip layer, which then I use my tip blend of PB76 and B261 to blend it, I repeat this one more time…

Since I’m satisfied with my results here, I’ll consider my side panes finished (until I actually do the final touches anyway).

Now onto the central pane, I’ll start off with a tip to tip blend of PB76 and PB71 at the bottom and the very top, I’ll blend them both towards the moon. Then I’ll use a line of PB71 at the very bottom and very top, using my tip to tip mix to blend it in. I don’t want to entirely overdo it here since I do want the center of the color kinda light still. Then I used my colorless blender to make a line around just the moon itself.

Awesome, now that’s done, we’re gonna focus on our character here, which, is Princess Serenity/Sailor Moon from Sailor Moon. 😛 (Anyone else excited for the reboot? Because excited doesn’t even begin to cover it for me). Anyway! Of course, we start with the skin which will be made up with YR132, YR133, and YR27. I start off with YR132 as a base layer then give a tip to tip layer of YR133 on YR132. I leave the lower lip white since I’m gonna give it some color once I’m done. I’m gonna have our light source coming from the moon, so the shadows will be coming down from the right, I start off with YR133  blended down with YR132. Next a tip to tip layer of YR27 on YR133 blended down halfway of the initial shadow layer then at the very edges of the shadow is a little bit of YR27 by itself, then blended down again with YR132. Then lastly, with R136 on my blender, I’ll color in the lips and give some blush onto the cheeks.

Onto hair! I didn’t give a ton of detail line wise since this is a really simple doodle, but that won’t mean I won’t give simple coloring~! Our blend being made up of Y49, Y37, and Y35. I lay down a layer of colorless blender before I begin with my initial layer of Y49 and figuring out where my highlights go. Next a tip to tip layer of Y49 on Y37, that I’ll blend down most of the way, but of course, not covering the highlights, then I use Y49 by itself for a smoother blend down, then Y37 by itself halfway on this layer to begin shading. Next a layer of Y35 partway down this layer then blended down with Y49, then one more layer of Y35 to deepen the shade.

Lastly, the dress which will be fairly simple, since I didn’t quite follow the true dress model, I’ll probably play around here more by giving the train a bit of a gradient, I’ll be using P145 and PB77, since that’s what I would have used if I had doodled the big bow in the back of the dress. Colorless blender and then P145 blended up part way of the dress. Next a tip to tip layer of P145 and PB77, taken up about halfway of that layer. Then at the very bottom of that layer PB77 was used then blended up with the tip to tip mix.

Now we’ll focus on shading the dress which the mix here is CG0.5 and CG1. I start off with 0.5 for where I want my shadows to fall. Then a tip to tip blend of the two blended down with 0.5, then just a line of CG1 in the darkest areas.

Oh! For the pearls and all that, I’ll just use the same shades there, except I just do little dabs of CG0.5 followed by CG1.  Onto the moon! I’m gonna stick with those two grays, but I’m also gonna bring back P145 too. So to start, we’re gonna use P145, and I’m gonna put it just a tiny bit away from the edge, then I’ll take my colorless blender to soften that up. Then with P145 again, I’ll do a few lines right at the curve of the moon to begin where I want some shadow to fall. Next I grab CG0.5 to layer on top of those shade lines, then halfway up that layer I’ll use CG1 and then blend that up with P145. Then I’ll use a tip to tip layer of my blender and P145 to give a little shading under the sleeping princess.

All done color wise~! Now to bring back the good ol’ dynamic duo of Copic Opaque White and my white gel pens.

Whoo! All done, thanks for stickin’ around again. See ya next time!
