I created this this fun card using a lot of my Distress Markers! I knew I wanted to use the unicorn from the Paper Smooches – Spectrum stamp set and decided it would be fun to make him tie-dye! I stamped him in VersaMark ink onto some Tim Holtz – Watercolor Paper and then heat embossed him in black. Heat embossing an image helps keep the color and water inside the lines. With this technique I knew that I’d be pooling up a lot of color and water so heat embossing the image made it a lot easier. I colored the markers onto an acrylic block so that I could just pick up the color with my brush. I first wet the image and then picked up the color and just let it pool in the water I already laid down.
Here are the Distress Marker colors I used:
Body: Peacock Feathers, Mustard Seed, Picked Raspberry
Mane and Tail: Tumbled Glass
Face and Feet: Spun Sugar
Horn: Wild Honey
For the background I did the same thing where I laid down water and then picked up color from the acrylic block. I wanted it to be a rainbow so I just laid down each color in order and tried to blend them a little as I went.
Here are the Distress Marker colors for the background:
Rainbow: Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Salty Ocean, Seedless Preserves
Sky: Tumbled Glass
The background was a little distracting, especially with the multicolored unicorn so I layered a piece of vellum over the top to help tone it down.
I used the Paper Smooches – Spectrum die set to quickly and easily cut out the unicorn.
I created some clouds with a piece of patterned paper from the Lawn Fawn – Hello Sunshine 6×6 paper pad. I also stamped the sentiment onto a piece of paper from this pad.
I adhered everything with the Crafter’s Companion – Adhesive Runner and dimensional foam adhesive.
I added a variety of sequins along the rainbow for a whimsical touch. They are from the Pretty Pink Posh – Sweetheart Mix, Lemon Drop, Metallic Gold, and Clear 4mm packs. The larger sequins are from the Lawn Fawn – Hello Sunshine sequin pack.
To finish everything off I added some white gel pen stitch lines and some Wink of Stella Glitter Pen in Clear to parts of the unicorn and also around the edges of the rainbow piece that are peeking out from behind the vellum. You can see the sparkle in the last picture.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
We can’t wait to see what you come up with for this ‘Anything Goes’ challenge! 🙂
