Honey, You’re Sweet!

Written by Ash. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi Copic Lovers! Linda here! As much as I hate to I will admit my eyes don’t work as well as they did when I was younger. At 61 I need glasses to see objects close and far away. Not only are my eyes getting older, along with the rest of me, but my hands aren’t as steady as they once were. When you are a serious color-er like me good eyes and steady hands are important.

Recently, I noticed that staying inside the lines of a small area was not as easy as it once was. I also noticed that outlining the outside of an image to create a background was more difficult. I decided to experiment with the nibs of my Copic markers to see if I could achieve better control. Here is what I did and the results.

First, I removed the broad nib from my sketch marker. I seldom use that nib.

I replaced the broad nib with a round nib.

Since the round nib is stiffer it is easier to control in small areas and around the outside of an image.

To create a ‘feathered’ background I used the brush nib.

I like the results I achieved with the round nib. I plan to replace the other broad nibs with rounds ones.

Here is my finished card using the iCopic Challenge Colors….coral, pink, and gold.

Kimono Card

Written by Samantha Peyton. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi everyone, Wanda here! Must be Wednesday, cuz I’m here with you today! Today I am sharing sweet Geisha Anya with her pretty kimono and shiny black hair. I found just the perfect piece of patterned paper to use with this card to make her a pretty little cherry blossom scene. I think I might possibly be addicted to coloring these Anya images now! Seems I can’t stop! Hope you like this one!

A
Here is a close up of her hairdo! NO BLACK was used to color her hair! Black is too harsh and will come out flat. Instead I used cool grey tones: C2, C5 and C7. Her flower and Kimono were colored with pretty shades of: R12. R14 and R17. For the hair, I started with my lightest shade first to lay a foundation of color. I did leave some white space, as you see. I went back over with my medium shade and finally streaked in some of the C7. Practice “flicking” your brush pen tip to feather out from thick to thin lines. It’s an optical illusion that your eye sees black when really it’s grey.

Tuesday Tips and Tricks: Color Combo Book

Written by Samantha Peyton. Posted in Tips & Tricks

Hi everyone!

Today, I would like to talk to you about color exploration. As you know, there are set colors for easy blending, which have the same letter and first number. BUT because Copics are all alcohol based, you can blend any colors together to get nearly an unlimited color palette. We talked about this a little bit on a previous Tuesday Tips and Tricks segment, and that segment can be found by clicking here.

I don’t know about you, but it is difficult for me to remember all the color combinations I test out, so what I have done is start a Color Notebook. I just bought one of those inexpensive little spiral notebooks and inside the notebook, I write down the color combos that I like!  Sometimes I even include a little sample (I just cut out an inch or two of copic paper that I colored, or even a sample stamped image)

I have them listed in sections like hair colors, skin colors, greens, etc.

Here are some combos off my list to get you started on your own Color Notebook:
Blond hair I: Y00, Y11, AND Y21
Blond hair II: Y11, Y21, AND Y15

Skin (Fair): E000, E00
Skin (Light) E00, E11, R20(for the cheeks)

What are some of your favorite color combos to use?
