Tuesday Tips: What to Do In Desperate Times!

Written by Marie Gamber. Posted in Uncategorized

Hello everyone!   Marie here to share with you on Tips and Tricks Tuesday at iCopic !
I have just spent a wonderful week at the beach near Southern California.  I had a wonderful  time and the weather was gorgeous!  However – that leads me to the little “tip and trick” I am going to share with you today.   I was so proud of myself for packing lightly.  You now what I mean!   Those craft bags we take on vacation can really add up to be more than our clothing! OK, let’s be honest- more than clothing for the whole family!   I was in the process of coloring my image and my violet Copics I needed for my mid-tone and highlight ran out of ink.  You got it…. They were dry.  My card was due (like yesterday)! No – there were not any Copic stores near.  iCopic was too far and Fed Ex wouldn’t cooperate!
Tip:  Take your colorless blender and touch the tip of your darker tone and blend outward.  Use a flicking motion with the wrist and blend toward the highlight.   Keep the process going and you will have a mid-tone and highlight!

Tuesday Tips & Tricks: Dye Job

Written by Ash. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi there iCopic Lovers! It’s Sheri here and today, I thought I would share with you a few different methods I use for coloring my seam binding. I used to buy it already colored, but now, I just buy a large roll of white seam binding it and color as I go and I always have matching ribbon.
The first method I use is glittery spray and either a bit of water or Perfect Pearls on a non-stick craft mat.

Smoosh (technical word) it around in this mixture, bunch up and wither set aside to dry or carefully use a heat gun to dry…if you’re impatient, like me. 🙂

The second method using Distress inks smooshed onto a non-stick craft mat and another spritz of Perfect Pearls or water.

After spritzing with Perfect Pearls

Crumple and set aside to dry.
The third method involves our beloved Copic Markers. Just scribble a couple of times on a non-stick craft mat, spritz with either a bit of colorless blender solution or a bit of alcohol.

 and …viola!
Below are the 3 different methods. Glimmer Mist, Distress Inks and Copic.
Have fun looking around your supplies to see what you have that will work too. I encourage to give it a try!

My card today uses the darling Tilda with Peony Tails stamp from Magnolia

Tuesday Tips & Tricks: 5 Quick and Easy Tips

Written by Samantha Peyton. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi everyone! Samantha here, bringing you today’s Tuesday Tips & Tricks. Today, I have rounded up some of my best card making tips and so I am going to share them with you. I call these sneaky tips because they are just those little extra things you can do to your card project to really make the card POP.

Now, I must be honest. I am no a super fancy card maker. I like my cards to be more on the clean and simple side of things because I don’t usually want to spend a ton of time on every project. I like to sit down, get crafty, and at the end of 30 minutes to and hour, I like to walk away with a beautiful project that I am proud of.

Sure,  I can and do design fancy cards with many layers and embellishments, but it just isn’t my normal every day crafting style. One of my favorite things about card making is you can do anything & there is such variety among designs. My tips today are on the clean and simple side of things, but the same design principles can be applied to any card (or scrapbook layout, or 3d item, etc etc. So take these tips and put them into your crafty arsenal if they are new to you and make them your own!

TIP#1: Fancy Background in seconds
Fireworks Spray creates a great background in literally a few seconds. You could even start with a neutral color cardstock and some colorful sprays. I chose a purple cardstock and LuLu Lavender Fireworks spray for a tone on tone background.

TIP #2: Edges Matter
I didn’t want to have to measure my patterned paper strip and then cut a mat layer for it, so I decided to ink up the edges with the Tim Holtz Ink Applicator Tool to provide some depth to the patterned paper. It just gives the patterned paper that extra OOMPH. I use this tool ALL THE TIME on my projects, no matter what ink I want to use. I used an aqua ink to match the aqua paper I was using.

TIP #3: Easy Mat
Want to know my secret for an eye catching mat layer for your image? Here it is! Make your mat layer out of the color that shows up the LEAST in your image. My image is called LuLu’s 2 Pies from Stamping Bella. It is heavily colored in aquas and purples, but I made the pie tins a different color from the rest of my image. I chose the red to use for my mat too so that it would be an attention grabber.

TIP #4: Eye Popping Sentiments
Banners are all the rage these days so why not put your sentiment on one?! I put my sentiment onto a banner and placed the sentiment so it was partially covering my image layer. I decided to place my sentiment there to break up all the squares on the card. It was just a way to make your eyes drawn to it.

TIP #5: Grounding
This is a tip that I have brought up again and again -add a floor to ground your image on your project. This grounding makes it look like your image isn’t floating around on the page.

And with my five tips in hand, I leave you with some photos of my finished project. This project has just five easy layers (if you even count the sentiment as a layer) but it was made using some of my best quick tips for creating eye catching creations.

Thanks so much for stopping by! The amazing Tracy will be back tomorrow to share something amazing with you. See you soon!

Tuesday Tips and Tricks: Waterbrush Floral Background Fun

Written by Samantha Peyton. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi everyone! Samantha here and for this week’s Tuesday Tips and Tricks, I have a watercolor tutorial to share with you. I created this background with the new Ranger Inksentials Water Brush Fine Detail brush.  I have a quick watercolor floral background tutorial to share with you. This project happens to be Mother’s Day themed, because Mother’s Day will be here before you know it 🙂

You can really have fun with the Water Brushes. They come in Fine Detail and Broad Nib

You will need the following supplies:
For Every Woman Stamp Set  by SP and Company
VersaMark or another embossing ink (clear)
Heating tool
Clear embossing powder
Distress Worn Lipstick, Distress Wild Honey, and Distress Spun Sugar
Ranger Inksentials Water Brush Fine Detail brush
white cardstock
pink ribbon
orange cardstock
Memento Tuxedo Black ink

Steps:
1. Using VersaMark, stamp large flower from the For Every Woman stamp set repeatedly onto your card base & emboss with clear embossing powder. My card base is a standard sized card base, but it opens up (cut an 8.5X11inch cardstock in half which ever way you prefer and fold).

TIP: When stamping my flowers, I stamped one at a time, then covered it with the clear embossing powder, and then heat set the flower immediately. The ink may dry by the time you finish stamping the whole background so I tend to work in small sections.

This is what the paper looked like once I had my flowers embossed:

2. Next, get your ink ready for your watercoloring. I just pressed my inks onto a clear block (use any plastic, non porous surface).

3. Using a damp watercolor brush, start creating your watercolored background. I found that if I got my brush too wet that the ink was way too light, so I tended to use more ink and less water. It left me with this background (pictured below). Notice that the flowers show through the ink because they are embossed!

4.  Next add a bow.

5. Finish off your card with one of the sentiments from the stamp set. I chose “Thank you for being my mommy” sentiment.

My card was still a bit damp when I was taking the photos so you can tell that the card seems all warped. I recommend you let the card dry flat 🙂

So that’s all for today everyone! I hope you enjoyed it!
