Cheeky Beach – With Love

Written by Kelli Cortes. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi everyone, Kelli here!  This weeks challenge is to use browns when coloring, so I thought I would play along.  You still have time to join in on the fun as well!  Just check out this post for more details!

For this card I used the Cheeky Beach stamp by The Greeting Farm.  I love their images, they are adorable!
If you only have a few brown Copics, don’t worry, because I do too!  I was able to color this whole image with only 6 colors!  All the browns are: E29, E37, E35 and E31.  For the skin I used YR00 and E00.  I first stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on the beautifully shimmery Curious paper.  The Memento ink is a must have for coloring with Copics!  The Curious paper is SO pretty and is very nice to blend with.  It has a really pretty shimmer to it which definitely adds something to any project!

I added some Crystal Effects to the beach ball so it would look more realistic and add some dimension to the card.  It also helped separate it from the brown of her hair and bathing suit.  I’ve had a few people ask me how I’m able to cut the image out so evenly.  What I do is I lightly sketch around the image with a pencil first so that I know exactly where I want to cut.  Then I use my Cutterbee scissors to cut it out.  After that, just erase any leftover pencil marks, and voila!  If I tried to cut it out without the pencil lines first, it would definitely be a disaster, haha!

For the flower in her hair, I took some flat-backed pearls and colored them with a brown Copic so they would match the whole brown theme.  That’s another great thing about Copics.  Since they are alcohol based, you can color almost anything with them!

This flower embellishment was actually to cover up a stamping booboo, but I think I actually like it there!  I used some of the awesome Divine Baker’s Twine and made a bow to put behind the flowers.

Thanks for looking!!!  🙂

Milton with Daisy – Hope

Written by Kelli Cortes. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi everyone, Kelli here!  Yesterday Dana showed you her adorable Milton with Teddy card and today I want to share my Milton with Daisy card with you!  I wanted to make a card that wasn’t really for any special occasion, but more of a ‘pick-me-up’.  This is a 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″ card, which is my favorite size to make, because it’s square, but will still fit into a standard A2 envelope so you don’t have to pay any extra postage.

The adorable patterned paper is also from Wild Rose Studio which explains why it’s the perfect match for this stamp!

I colored Milton with Copics markers E31, E35, E37 and E39.  For the flower I used Y13, Y15 and Y35.  It’s hard to tell in the pictures but the white part of the petals has a little bit of B0000 to accentuate the white and some Y000 for the shading at the base of the petals.  I also used my awesome Spica Glitter Pen in clear for the center of the flower as well as the centers of the flowers on the green patterned paper.  The yellow around the outside of Milton was done using the Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Mustard Seed.  I used the Divine Baker’s Twine in lemon to add a little something extra to the card to help finish it off.

Here you can see where I cut out the flower and popped it up on some foam adhesive for added dimension.

Thanks for stopping by!  🙂

Gorjuss Galore!

Written by Kelli Cortes. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi everyone, Kelli here!  I hope you’re all having a great week.  Today my post is all about Gorjuss!  I have a few cards to share with you, so let’s get started!

For this card I used the adorable Gorjuss Bear Skin stamp.  I’ll list which Copics I used at the end so you can have them all in one place.  The cute brown paper is from the Wild Rose Studio Milton collection which I think matches perfectly with her hat, mittens, and leggings.  Next, I wanted to incorporate a fun way to use the Washi Tape with this project.  I had never used or seen Washi Tape before, and let me tell you, I love it!  It is so much fun.  It’s like a sturdy tissue tape that is somewhat see through.  You can also tear it by hand instead of cutting it for a different look.  I took Sam’s tip and used it as a border for my colored image, and I think it worked really well to give a nice subtle frame.  I then took it and stuck it on top a piece of white satin ribbon.  This let me use the awesome color and design of the Washi Tape, but have it act more like a ribbon, so I could make a cheater bow.  So now it looks like I have tape (for the border) and ribbon that match, when really it was just all from a roll of Washi Tape!  If you don’t have any of this stuff, I suggest trying it out.  It’s hard to know what it’s really like until you get to play with it on your own.

I felt like her hat needed  something extra, so I put a little piece of Washi Tape onto a piece of white card stock and punched out a little heart.

This is the cheater bow I mentioned.  You almost can’t even tell it’s a piece of tape stuck to the ribbon!

Copics Used:
Face:  E00, YR00, R20, R22
Hair:  C5, C7, C9, N0
Hat, Mittens, Leggings:  E29, E37, E35, E31
Coat, Boots:  V01, V04, V05, V06
Floor:  C5, N0

Next I wanted to show you something a little different!  These 3 ‘Thank You’ notecards use the Gorjuss Girl Topper Sheet.  These are awesome little die cut sheets that can help you make quick and simple cards!  I decided to spice up the 3 smaller girl cutouts by doing something to them I saw a few people do on YouTube.  I heat embossed them with 2 to 3 coats of Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel, let them dry completely and then cracked them to give them a worn, grunge look.  After that, to help define the cracks, I took the Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot and rubbed it all over the top of the image with the foam applicator and wiped off any excess with a dry paper towel.  You don’t have to do the heat emobssing and inking step if you wanted to make these cards super quick.  For the worn heart background I used the Hearty Hearts Background by SP & Company.  I stamped them in the Black Soot ink, but I stamped once on a scrap piece of paper first so that the black wasn’t so harsh.
Thanks for looking!  🙂

Here you can see I also used the Black Soot ink to define the edges of the matte and card base.  I think it helped tie the whole grungy, dark feel together.

Sending You Smiles

Hi, everyone!  I hope you’re having a great Saturday!  I’m Kelli and I’m so excited to be part of the iCopic design team!  These ladies are extremely talented and I’m honored to be on a design team with them!

Today I want to share a card with you using the adorable Edward stamp by The Greeting Farm.  I absolutely LOVE The Greeting Farm stamps, they’re so cute and definitely one of my favorite companies.

For his hair, I wanted to give the look of highlights.  So, basically what I did was alternate individual sections with E35, E37 and E37, E29.  I didn’t pay as much attention to where the actual light would be hitting his hair (for this individual stamp), but more attention to getting the different stand colors in there.  I did start with the darker color at the bottom (because of shadowing) and the lighter color at the tip.

For the embellishment I used the amazing Divine Baker’s Twine, this stuff is great!  The little pop of color (there are lots to choose from) is just the right amount to add a little something extra other than just white.  I also added a sentiment from the SP & Company – Ultimate Sentiments I stamp set.  The high quality, clear photopolymer made it extremely simple to see where I was stamping and to get a nice clean image.
