A Clean and Simple Watercolor Featuring Tombow Markers

Written by lisascreativeniche. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Hi!  It is Lisa here with you all today and I have a very clean and simple card to share with you today that incorporates layered stamping with watercoloring.  Most often layered stamps are used for their crisp lines and well obvious layers.  When you add watercoloring to these images it tends to soften layers, and depending on how much water you add it can even mix the layers more than desired.  For my card I chose to stamp the images using my Tombow Markers instead of ink pads, and this allowed me to have a little more control of how and where any blending would occur once I added clean water…

To create this card I first started with the stems of the flowers.  I loved that by using the markers I was able to achieve a two toned look without much effort.  I then went in with a brush and clean water to blend and smooth out the colors.  Next came the leaves, and finally the flowers on top.  For each of these I went back over each layer with a brush and clean water, making sure that the first layer was completely dry before adding my next.

The Timless Tulips by Sunny Studio also had the perfect sentiment for my card so I stamped it with Versafine ink.  I finished the card off with Distress Ink in Tumbled glass to give it a soft blue background.  To tie in the watercolor look I added a few drops of water to the background and blotted them off.

If watercoloring seems too “messy” or “uncontrollable” for your tastes then using markers such as Tombow is a fantastic option for you!  I can’t wait to see what you create with this technique, and feel free to add it to our latest challenge, where we are asking you to watercolor people or animals.

Happy Crafting!

Gorgeous clean and simple card. Thank you for your advice about trying the Tombow markers for a less “messy” or “uncontrollable” experience. I think that’s my exact problem … loving the clean and neat look but still uncomfortable with the freeform style that usually goes along with watercoloring. I need to invest in some of these markers!

I loved my Tombow markers but alas they have dried up and so I use my distress inks but have to order some more pens!! Your tulips are delightful and show so much depth because of the control you had with the pens! Gorgeous!!
