You Make My Life Magical!

Written by Jessica Frost. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Good morning!  Jess here with a card using the new ADORABLE Magical Dragons from My Favorite Things!

Isn’t that dragon cute?!  I started by stamping him onto watercolor paper with versamark and heat-embossing him with silver embossing powder.  Then I colored him with zig markers and blended him with a spectrum noir clear sparkle brush.  I wanted the scene to be super sparkly and blending with the spectrum noir brush gives the same effect as blending with a waterbrush but with a ridiculous amount of sparkle! Next I added a little grass and sky to my scene and blended it out.  I die-cut it with a Scalloped Circle and then set him aside while I worked on the rest of the card.

Next I inked up the Diagonal Stripes background stamp with versamark and stamped it onto a piece of Jelly Bean cardstock before heat-embossing it with clear embossing powder for a tone on tone look.  I stamped the sentiment onto white cardstock and die-cut it with a stitched fishtail banner.  Finally I die-cut the Flourish die with silver glitter paper and cut it in half.  To finish the card I adhered the flourish behind the dragon, adhered the sentiment banner, and then mounted the dragon and sentiment to the background panel.

I really love these dragons…you’ll be seeing a lot more of them from me soon! 😉  I hope you have a fabulous Friday and thanks so much for visiting!

We Flamin-go Together!

Written by Jessica Frost. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Good morning and Happy Friday!!  Jess here with a bright and sparkly card featuring a really cute set from Lawn Fawn!

I’m still as annoyed with the hot weather as I was last week but I’m trying to channel tropical islands instead of hot, humid Virginia! 😉

To start I stamped the flamingos from Lawn Fawn’s Flamingo Together with copic-friendly Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Neenah Solar White cardstock.  I colored the plumage of the male flamingo with RV13, RV14, and RV25 and the female flamingo with RV21, RV23, and RV04.  I colored their beaks with N0, N3, and N6 and then die-cut them with the coordinating dies.

Next I blended Festive Berries, Abandoned Coral, Picked Raspberry, and Dried Marigold distress inks onto a piece of Ranger watercolor cardstock to create my sky.  I knew my flamingos were going to stand on a island so I die-cut the Stitched Hillside Borders with black cardstock and traced the edge onto my background panel.  Then  I stamped the palm trees onto the background panel with versafine to get a nice, dark impression.

I decided it needed a little more sparkle so I pressed my versamark pad ALL over the background panel and embossed it with holographic embossing powder.  Look at that sparkle!!

I stamped the sentiment from Flamingo Together onto the island with versamark and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder before adhering it to the background panel with foam mounting tape.  I added a little foam mounting tape behind the body of my flamingos and regular liquid adhesive to their legs and adhered them over the island.  Finally I stamped the heart with versamark, heat-embossed it with white embossing powder, die-cut it, and added it over their heads with foam mounting tape.

Still not a fan of summer…but I think I could hang out on this island and not complain too much! 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

Autumn Thanks

Written by Jessica Frost. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Good morning, Jess here!  I realize I’m probably totally in the minority here but I am just not a big fan of summer.  I do love the yummy fruits and veggies that we get during the summer months but I live in Virginia and I hate the heat and I detest the humidity.  So, as we’re finishing up another week of 90+ temperatures I find myself longing for the fall.  Crisp nights, changing leaves, apple picking, pumpkin picking, and fall chrysanthemums on the porch…*sigh*.  Even if you love summer you know you love those fall traditions, too…right?  Today’s card sums up my deep, DEEP longing for October… 😉

mpjuly1I love the Beautiful Bouquet series from WPlus9.  Dawn has a knack for creating gorgeous floral arrangement stamps.  All you have to do is stamp and color them…no masking required!  To start my card I stamped the Beautiful Bouquet: Mums onto off-white cardstock with versamark and heat-embossed it with gold tinsel embossing powder.  Then I colored the image with copic markers.

(Quick disclaimer: I have heard that it’s not good to use copics with embossing powder because it can ruin the marker tip.  I’m not 100% sure if it’s true but I have a crafty hack for that.  If I really want to use my copics with embossing powder I do one of two things: I either color with the broad nib if possible or I color using dots instead of my normal strokes so that my nib isn’t rubbing against the embossing powder.  The gold tinsel embossing powder does have glitter in it so I tend to be a little more careful to make sure that my nib doesn’t rub against the embossing powder; however, if I’m using clear or white embossing powder I don’t stress as much.)

Next I die-cut the Hello word from WPlus9 with matte gold cardstock and adhered it to the card panel with glossy accents.  I mounted the panel on a white card base and then added a sprinkling of metallic gold sequins to finish the card.

Whew, I feel better now…time to go face the heat and water the garden.  Thanks so much for visiting and I hope your day isn’t nearly as hot and humid as mine! 😉

I Can’t Thank You Enough!

Written by Jessica Frost. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Good morning!  Jess here with a cheerful floral card featuring the gorgeous Summer Blooms stamp set from WPlus9!

I wanted to focus on blues and pink for the flowers and didn’t really want to add a green for the leaves so I decided to use embossing powder to create gold sparkly foliage.  You could easily use any neutral or metal for a similar look.  I think this card would look equally pretty with grey or silver leaves!

Anyway, I used three Altenew inks for this card: Caribbean Sky, Sapphire, and Coral Berry.  The Summer Blooms stamp set has lots of tiny elements that can be layered and lined up together to create various floral looks.  After I finished stamping the flowers I stamped the leaves and stems with versamark and then heat-embossed them with gold tinsel embossing powder.  To finish the card I die-cut the panel with a scalloped frame from Mama Elephant’s Basic Set, stamped the sentiment from Summer Blooms with Sapphire ink and adhered the scalloped panel to a card base with foam mounting tape.

I love making floral arrangements with all of the fun floral builder sets available these days and this set from WPlus9 can create thousands of different looks with all of the various stamps included in the set.  ABSOLUTELY. LOVE. IT.  Cannot recommend it enough! 😉

Thanks so much for visiting today and have a wonderful day!
