Flower Hello – Dies

Written by Kelli Cortes. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects), Tips & Tricks

Hi, everyone!  Kelli here today for Tuesday’s Tips & Tricks.  I am going to talk about a couple kinds of dies today.  Right now, dies that coordinate with stamp sets are extremely hot!  As I’ve said a bunch of times before, they are one of my favorite crafty tools at the moment.  Generally, the two most popular types of dies that coordinate with stamps are either solid or open in the center.  The open ones are very easy to line up over an image after you’ve stamped it.  The dies that are solid in the center are easier to cut first and then stamp.  Sometimes companies have no choice but to make a solid die because of center areas, like an alphabet for instance.  If you were to cut out a lowercase e, you’d need the center of the e to cut out so the die has to be solid to hold that part in place.

Here’s a picture of the two side by side.  On the left is a solid center die by Lawn Fawn to coordinate with Quinn’s ABCs.  The die on the right is by Avery Elle and coordinates with their Petals and Stems stamp set.  The individual dies in a set usually come attached to each other as you can see by the alphabet set, but you can easily just bend them and they break apart.

I stamped my flower first and then lined the die up evenly over the top.  Then I just used some Post-It Note tape to hold it in place.  Really any removable tape will work, a lot of people like to use Washi Tape.

Here’s the h from the alphabet set, and since you can’t see through the die, it’s much easier to cut and then stamp.

For my project I stamped a bunch of different shapes from the Avery Elle – Petals and Stems set and die cut them all with the coordinating dies.  I did the same with the ‘hello’ using the Lawn Fawn – Quinn’s ABCs and coordinating dies.  I didn’t want the ‘hello’ to compete too much with the bright flowers so I just made it the same color as the card base.

I finished everything off by stamping some little dots from the Petals and Stems set and outlined the top layer with white gel pen stitch lines.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  Have a great day!  🙂

All About Pinwheels

Written by Marlena Hoffman Peduzzi. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects), Get to Know the DT

Hi everyone, this week is a freebie week , which means we can choose to share something OTHER then a paper crafting project, if we like, BUT since I spend every free moment in my craft space with my paper, I decided to go ahead and share a card I made with you anyway.  Don’t get me wrong, like most craft junkies I have other craft interests.  I’ve made jewelry, I crochet and I sew.  Next to paper crafting sewing is my second love and I have been wanting to sew all summer since I haven’t done it in awhile.  I hope I can get some sewing in before I start back at school, then there certainly won’t be any time for both.  Anyway, I decided many years ago that I wanted to focus on one craft to give all of my attention to most of the time and, well, paper crafting won, hands down!  As always though, if I could do it all, I would!

For today’s project I used a lot of great products from MarkerPop.  I finally remembered I had all these super fantastic die cuts and used several on my project today.  I used a Marianne Designs die – Lace Circle and Flower, a Die-Namics die – Sentimental Flourish and a CC Designs die, Pinwheel.  The CC Designs die coordinates with the CC Designs image I used today, Pinwheel Brigitta.  And, OF COURSE I used my copic markers on my project.  I have no idea how I survived before I found my copic markers.  The colors I used are, Clothes: E28, E46, E43, E40, B18, B14, B12, B000, RV25, RV23, RV10, RV000 and Skin and Hair: E11, YR01, E01, E000, E0000, C9, C7, C5 and C1.

This is such a great summer image, I definitely think about pinwheels in the summer time.  My parents even a have a few in their garden and they really does make their flowers sparkle.

Enjoy the rest of your Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

The “Book” Club…

Written by Tina Galvan-Gilliland. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

MPBeverly

Happy Monday everyone!!!  Tina here once again.  I’d like to share with you a book marker I made for my pen pal, Beverly.  Now, the reason I made her the book mark, isn’t because we READ books together and then discuss… like “NORMAL” book clubs do, but because we share a love of our planners.  That’s right, you heard me… planners.  Not just ANY planner, but Filofax planners.  And she and I met through our Filofax “cult” (as my hubby calls it… LOL).  Beverly lives in the UK and we decided to become pen pals.  Beverly has a love for antiques and all things vintage.  I couldn’t help but think of her whenI grabbed this adorable image from Tiddly Inks, “Aida – Gonna Miss you”.  Aida comes with suit cases but I decided to perch her on top of the FREE digital “Open Book” that is offered on Tiddly Inks web site.  … YES I said FREE!!!

I used craft paper from Teresa Collins, “Memories” paper which I felt looked perfect as a vintage design.  My image was printed on Cryogen White and colored with Copic Sketch markers.  I cut the image and mounted them separately onto the book mark.

Before finishing up my card I made sure each edge was distressed with some Tim Holtz Distress ink pads in “Vintage Photo”.  I found a piece of “aged” looking embellished sentiment plate. Here’s a closer look….

Seems lots of gals in our planner group are receiving lots of flack lately about actually using a “written” scheduler instead of the tech savvy cell phones and such.  I decided this sentiment was perfect to let at least one person know, it’s ok to step back and enjoy your personalized hand written notes and appointments.  I know I still keep a written journal and LOVE getting back down to paper and pen, probably more than most. LOL

I kept it a simple design because I want you to know…. not everything needs to be complicated, or flowery, or even full of die cuts or flourishes.  Sometimes… a little simple image and cute papers are enough to serve it’s purpose.  Not ALL we design needs to be explosively eye catching.  Just from your heart and it’s purpose is sometimes all we need.  🙂

I hope you have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by.  We always appreciate your support! *HUGS*

Faith the Fairy

Written by Shanna Shands. Posted in Eye Candy (Projects)

Hey everyone. Shanna here with part two of my guesting at Markerpop. I am so grateful to be here sharing with you again.

So for this card I am using one of my favorite paper collections along with one of my favorite stamp companies.

I love Stamping Bella Uptown Girls! I also love Glitz Designs! So combining the two this is what I came up with!

Of course I colored my image with my favorite copic markers…. I think this maybe one of few tries (I can still count on one hand) of coloring yellow as a primary color.

I love how well the blue complimented the golden mustard yellow.
