Holiday Wishes!

Written by Holly Endress. Posted in Challenges, Eye Candy (Projects)

Happy Monday everyone.. Holly here today with a reminder there’s time to join us for our July Summer of Fun Challenge. We have 2 challenges running all month long and for each project you enter you have a chance to Win our Summer of Fun Prize Pack.

July’s Summer of Fun Prize Pack features:

The Mama Elephant Summer Days Stamp Set, Avery Elle’s Beside the Beach Stamp Set, Photo Play’s Summer Bucket List Paper Pad and Lawn Fawn’s Aloha Set.

Our first challenge for the month is a Christmas in July Color Challenge.

Use a minimum of  Three of the colors above and a neutral of your choice to create a Christmas Themed project. You are welcome to use any brand of products you have in your stash but we ask that you use a coloring medium that we carry in the store.

I created a card using the Mama Elephant Floral Series ~ Poinsettias set and it’s coordinating dies. With some of the New Distress Oxide Inks in Candied Apple, Lucky Clover and Iced Spruce. The New Distress Oxide inks will be arriving in the MarkerPop store later this week so be sure to order yours now. I also used the Mama Elephant Pizazz Pieces Creative Cuts and Mama Elephant Jingle Greetings Set.

I die cut a piece of watercolor paper using the Dotted die in the Pizazz Pieces creative cuts then I added some Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Ink. I added a few splatters of water to active the ink and then blotted off any excess. Once that was dry I adhered the panel to a A2 size Red card base. I stamped each of the Poinsettia images onto some watercolor paper using Ranger Archival Black ink and colored them in with the Candied Apple and Lucky Clover, Vintage Photo and Fossilized Amber Oxide Inks. I added some splatters of water as well and dabbed off any excess.

I used the coordinating dies to cut the images out and adhered them to the front of the card with some foam adhesive. Then I stamped the sentiment in VersaMark ink and heat embossed it in Gold. I added some Gold Wink of Stella to the center of the flowers and some Mixed Gold sequins for a little more sparkle.

Head over to this post to get all the info on how to join along in the challenges this month for a chance to Win our Summer of Fun Prize Pack!!

Beautiful card! Love the gold embossing. You’re so lucky to have the new Distress Oxides already. Looking forward to that Candied Apple red … perfect for Christmas cards. Which do you find yourself using more these days … Distress Inks or Distress Oxides?

I’m still reaching for the Original Distress Inks.. But I try to use one or two oxides as well each time with the others. I think if you are a fan of Distress this will be a welcome new addition to any collection and used often.

Thank you, Holly, for your honest input. With the recent release, all the rave is about the Oxides. I’m still new to this and just barely collecting distress inks. Although the easy blending and sharper stamping abilities of the Oxides are very tempting, I’m still drawn to the vibrant colors of the original Distress Inks. (I’m sure I’ll eventually collect both kinds). The option to get the original ones in the mini size is also a plus. Good to know that I’m not the only one that will be using the original Distress Inks. HA!HA! For future reference, any advice on storage of full size distress ink pads and the matching ink blending foam?

I use the Distress ink pad holders for my full size ones they sell them at Stamp n Storage. And I keep the blending foam under the pad with some velcro. It’s fits perfectly in the stamp holder. For the Minis I use the tins and keep the mini foam pad under them as well, but you don’t need any velcro. I have both the minis and full size.. I noticed I was using them more and I was needing to refill often. So I really was better off with Full size pads.
