Galaxy Background

Written by Holly Endress. Posted in Uncategorized

Hi everyone.. It’s Holly here today and I have a new video tutorial on creating a Galaxy Background using Distress Oxide Inks and the Adorable Space Explorer set from My Favorite Things.

I started with a piece of  Watercolor paper and I added Distress Oxide Inks in: Worn Lipstick, Wilted Violet, Fossilized Amber,  Faded Jeans, Cracked Pistachio, Broken China & Black Soot Distress Ink. I used my heat tool to dry the paper in between each color. Once I had the background the way I liked it I added some White Gesso to create Stars. Once the panel was completely dried I used the MFT Blue Prints 15 to die cut the panel. Then I adhered it to a White top folding card base.

I stamped each image onto some X-Press it blending card stock using Lawn Fawn’s Jet Black ink. This is my favorite paper to use with my Copics. The blend so smooth and the ink doesn’t saturate the paper as much so you save on ink. One tip when using Black Copic friendly ink.. give it a few minutes to dry before you stay to color. Sometime the outline can smear if you start coloring too soon. Trust me it’s worth the extra minute.

Then I colored them in with Copics in the following colors.. Skin: E50, E51, E21 & E04 Balloons: BG10, BG11, BG13, V12, V15, V17, Y32, YR31 & Y35 Hair: E23, E25 & E27 Space Suit: N6, N4, N2 & N0/ B24 & B26, R24 & R29. I used the same colors in the Planets and Stars. I also added some Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen in Clear to parts of the images.

I used the coordinating dies to cut the images out and then I used Blueprints 27 to die cut a frame from some Black Glimmer paper. I adhered the frame with some Foam Tape. Then I added each image with some additional foam tape. I die cut the banner from Blueprints 27 from some Neenah Solar White card stock and stamped the sentiment in VersaFine Black ink.

You can see more details on how I created this card in the video below.. and don’t forget to check out our Copic Sketch Book Giveaway!!

Adorable card! What a fun stamp set to color. Great job coloring and blending. How stable is the distress ink? If you accidentally get water on it (for example: your mailed card gets a little wet in the rain) will it ruin the image?
